TOMBEAUX
CHRISTINA SANDSENGEN
BEST CLASSICAL COMPENDIUM

Tombeaux is a deeply evocative and immersive musical journey composed and performed by Norwegian classical guitarist Christina Sandsengen. Conceived as a unified cycle of eleven tombeaux — musical homages written in memory of her family, all of whom she lost too soon — the album explores themes of death, grief, love, and longing through the intimate voice of the classical guitar.
The recording took place in Emanuel Vigeland’s mausoleum in Oslo, a space whose frescoes and extraordinary reverberation became an inseparable part of the music. Every note expands into the darkness and dissolves like a fading memory, amplifying the emotional resonance at the heart of the album.
Rooted in classical tradition yet shaped by deeply personal reflection, Tombeaux conveys something raw and intimate, while touching on universal experiences of sorrow, remembrance, and enduring love. It is both a cycle of musical memorials and a testament to the profound impact her family continues to have on her life.
